Biography of Matt Swinney
MATT SWINNEY, was immersed into the beauty industry at a young age by his parents who have 70 years of combined industry experience. From the early 1980s Matt was allowed to watch and learn the art of hair as it morphed into what it is today. Attending the Aveda Institute at the age of 18 years formalized his education and started him on his amazing career path.
Fusing art, science and creativity have been the drive behind Matt’s ambition and passion for this industry. Believing that there is a fountain of knowledge to drink from and share he has dedicated himself to advancing not only his skills, but also the skills of other professionals. Matt’s creative talent enabled him to become a Platform Artist for Team NXT at the I.C.E. Shows where he performed cutting and coloring techniques on the main stage as well as in the classroom. Moving forward Matt became a Paul Mitchell National Color Educator and then on to the Extreme Team as a Platform Artist where again he delivered classes and main stage artistry for TTCB and Sogecos Americas.
His natural evolution led him to opening up his own salon in the heart of Minneapolis in 2002. Evolution, is a salon that embodies his philosophy that you’re only “as good as your client feels,” meaning that everyone deserves to look and feel great about themselves. It is about bringing whoever you touch to their highest potential while striving to reach your own as well.
Excitement, beauty and fashion are what our job is all about. Being involved in fashion shows benefiting Sydney Portic and Source Magazine to doing hair for the Alternative Hair Show as part of Floyd Kenyata’s 2004 team to now being apart of L’ANZA’s Creative Team headed by Oscar and Wendy Bond, is leading Matt’s talent to the next level.
