FEATURED STYLIST – VALERIE FRAZEE
Actress, stylist and L’ANZA Educator Valerie Frazee found her passion for hair while putting herself through college for theatre. Doing hair and makeup was a great way to get backstage and realizing she had a knack for it, she enrolled in cosmetology school. Now a stylist for over 13 years, Valerie runs an independent studio in Austin, TX. She stays active in the Austin theatre community, and just recently made her first feature film Bernie with writer/director and Austin native Richard Linklater, starring Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey and Jack Black.
About three years ago, L’ANZA found Valerie. “The retail line is better than anything I’ve used. And if referrals are our business, I need the best stuff out there. Bradley Avants (Brand Consultant – Next Step Salon Consultants) really talked to me about Healing Color and after doing a lot of research, the integrity of the entire brand just really stood out – I was in love!”
With stage presentation in her blood and L’ANZA in her life, education was a very logical next step. After visiting her first hair show she immediately got involved and started educating for L’ANZA. She recently went through a focused series of advanced prep courses with a final audition, and is movin’ on up!
What’s next for Valerie? As her star continues to rise with L’ANZA Education, Valerie will be keeping her clientele healed, sealed and protected at her salon. She also begins shooting an independent film this May, called Bearing Fruit.
VALERIE’S PICKS & FAVES
Favorite Shampoo: Healing Strength White Tea Shampoo. Use it with the Manuka Honey Conditioner when you need that protein. It really gives hair back its strength and I love the smell – like I just got a treatment!
Favorite Styler: Taffy. For curly/scrunching when wet, and to define when dry – love the texture it gives. Dramatic F/X is great as both a working and a finishing spray.
Top Product Recommended: Powder Up Texturizer. Texas – big hair – Powder Up is a no-brainer.
Favorite Inspiration Source: I love Instyle. It’s definitely more focused on clothing and accessories, but the hairstyles are always so wearable and functional. My clients don’t ask for crazy. They want what looks good with their wardrobe, and they put together fabulous, fully-defined looks.
Favorite Look/Era: The bob. Classic – can wear it from 5-105. 1920s – genius era.
Specialties: I’d definitely say COLOR and period hair. I love the problem-solving involved with color challenges, and with all my theatre background – wig design and formal styling are my obsessions.
